No. You can book directly with Strathfield Eyecare without a referral from your GP or another healthcare professional. Optometrists are primary eye care providers and can assess your vision and eye health, manage many eye conditions and refer you to an ophthalmologist or other healthcare professional when required.

Regular eye examinations are important even if you feel that your vision is perfectly clear. The appropriate frequency depends on your age, eye health, general health, family history and individual risk factors. Our optometrists can recommend an examination schedule that is appropriate for you.

Yes. An eye examination is about much more than checking whether you can read the letters on an eye chart. Eye conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease can develop without obvious symptoms. Our comprehensive examinations assess both your vision and the health of your eyes.

Our comprehensive examinations assess your prescription, including short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism, as well as age-related vision changes. Depending on your needs, we can also assess focusing and convergence, dry eye, eye pressure and visual fields, and use retinal photography, OCT, corneal topography and dilated retinal examination to assess your eye health.

Yes. A comprehensive eye examination can help detect and monitor conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinal disease. We use advanced diagnostic technology to assist with early detection and ongoing management. Where specialist care is required, we have established referral relationships with ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals.

Yes. Even after laser refractive or cataract surgery, regular eye health examinations remain important. Our examinations can assess your current vision and screen for eye health conditions.

Eligibility for a Medicare rebate depends on your consultation type and circumstances. Optometrists Irene Jin and Hie Rin Lee bulk bill initial general eye exams, while Hanna Kim's consultations are partly covered. Additional testing, such as OCT imaging, may incur extra fees, which our team will explain when you book your eye exam.

The length of an appointment depends on the type of examination and your individual needs. A comprehensive eye examination may involve several different assessments and diagnostic tests, so we recommend allowing adequate time rather than treating an eye examination as simply a prescription check.

If you wear glasses or contact lenses, bring your current eyewear with you. Please also bring your Medicare card, private health insurance card if applicable, and information about any medications or eye conditions relevant to your care.

Dry eye is a common condition that occurs when the tears and/or the surface of the eye are not functioning properly. The most common cause is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), where the glands in the eyelids do not produce enough healthy oil to maintain a stable tear film.

Symptoms can include burning, stinging or gritty eyes, redness, light sensitivity, watery eyes, fluctuating or blurred vision, difficulty wearing contact lenses and tired or uncomfortable eyes, particularly after prolonged screen use.

Yes. Watery eyes can actually be a symptom of dry eye. Irritation of the eye can trigger reflex tearing, but these tears may not contain enough of the right components to provide a stable, healthy tear film.

We use advanced dry eye diagnostic technology, including the Oculus Keratograph K5M. Assessment can include tear-film stability, meibomian gland imaging, tear volume, blink analysis, meibomian gland function and assessment of the eyelids and lifestyle factors that may contribute to dry eye.

Depending on the cause and severity of your dry eye, treatment may include Envision by InMode, IPL, Low Level Light Therapy, Rexon Eye, Blephasteam and meibomian gland expression, together with personalised advice regarding eyelid care, nutrition, screen habits, environment and lifestyle.

Envision by InMode is an advanced treatment for dry eye and meibomian gland dysfunction that uses radiofrequency energy to stimulate meibomian gland function and improve tear-film quality as well as intense pulsed light to reduce inflammation around the eyelids and improve meibomian gland function. Strathfield Eyecare is proud to be the first practice in NSW to offer Envision Dry Eye Treatment.

Myopia, or short-sightedness, is a condition where distant objects appear blurry. It commonly develops during childhood and can become progressively stronger as the eye grows.

Myopia management refers to evidence-based strategies designed to slow the progression of myopia in children and reduce the amount of eye elongation. It is different from simply providing glasses or contact lenses to make vision clearer.

Higher levels of myopia are associated with an increased lifetime risk of certain sight-threatening eye conditions. Slowing myopia progression during childhood can therefore be an important part of protecting long-term eye health.

Depending on the child's age, prescription, lifestyle and individual circumstances, options may include Orthokeratology (Ortho-K), specialised myopia-control spectacle lenses and contact lenses, and low-dose atropine eye drops. Our optometrists can assess your child's eyes and recommend the most appropriate approach.

There is no single age that is right for every child. If your child's prescription is changing or you are concerned about increasing short-sightedness, an early assessment is worthwhile. Early intervention can be particularly important when myopia is progressing quickly.

Orthokeratology, commonly called Ortho-K, uses specially designed rigid contact lenses worn overnight to gently reshape the cornea. The lenses are removed in the morning, allowing suitable patients to enjoy clear vision during the day without glasses or daytime contact lenses.

Yes. Ortho-K can be suitable for both children and adults with appropriate prescriptions. It can be particularly useful for children with progressing myopia because it can provide daytime vision correction while also forming part of a myopia-management strategy. Suitability needs to be assessed individually.

Ortho-K is one of the options we use for myopia management. Research supports its use for slowing myopia progression in appropriate patients. Your optometrist can discuss whether it is suitable for your child.

No. Ortho-K lenses are worn while sleeping and removed upon waking. The aim is to provide clear daytime vision without needing glasses or daytime contact lenses.

No. Ortho-K is a non-surgical and reversible form of vision correction. It uses specially designed contact lenses to temporarily reshape the cornea.

We fit a wide range of contact lenses, including daily, weekly, fortnightly and monthly soft lenses, rigid gas permeable lenses, coloured lenses and Ortho-K lenses.

In many cases, yes. Contact lens options are available for people with astigmatism, although the most appropriate lens depends on your prescription, eye shape, lifestyle and eye health.

Potentially. Rigid gas permeable lenses and other specialised contact lens designs may be appropriate for some people with higher prescriptions or irregular corneas. A comprehensive assessment is required to determine the best option.

Yes. We fit both prescription and cosmetic coloured contact lenses, with appropriate assessment and monitoring to ensure they are suitable and safe for your eyes.

Contact lenses sit directly on the surface of your eye. Proper fitting and regular eye reviews are therefore important for vision, comfort and eye health. Our fitting process includes a baseline eye examination, corneal measurements, trial lens assessment, insertion and removal training, lens-care education and scheduled aftercare.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a painless, non-invasive imaging technology that creates detailed images of the layers of the retina. It can help identify structural changes that may not be visible during a standard vision test and is useful for monitoring eye health over time.

Retinal photography uses a specialised camera to capture high-resolution images of the retina, blood vessels and optic nerve. These images can assist with detecting and monitoring conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinal changes.

Corneal topography creates a detailed map of the shape and curvature of the cornea. It is particularly useful when fitting specialised contact lenses such as Ortho-K and when monitoring certain corneal conditions.

The Rodenstock DNEye® Scanner measures detailed characteristics of your visual system, including wavefront aberrations, pupil size, eye position and corneal and lens parameters. This information can be used to create highly personalised spectacle lenses based on your individual visual measurements.

Yes. Strathfield Eyecare is a full-scope optometry practice providing eye care for children and adults. We can assess children's vision and eye health and provide myopia-management options when appropriate.

Children may not realise that their vision is abnormal, particularly if one eye sees better than the other. An eye examination can identify vision and eye-health issues that may otherwise go unnoticed.
